Each year, Seniors at Animas High School are provided the opportunity to do what we call the Senior Project. This consists of a thesis paper, written about a subject of your choice, an action project, designed to have a positive impact on the community, and a culminating TED Talk, given as a way to expose more people to the ideas you have been pondering for the better part of six months. This process takes the entire second semester of senior year, with two to three hours a day devoted to it, and a five-week block of time where the action project is all you work on. For my thesis, I decided to write about the concept of geoengineering, its mechanics, and its possible implementation in the near future. For my action project, I decided to work to create a way for members of the Durango community to recycle their own plastic into usable items.
